 sri-bhagavan uvaca
 vetthedam drona-putrasya
 brahmam astram pradarsitam
 naivasau veda samharam
 prana-badha upasthite

                                      SYNONYMS

   sri-bhagavan--the Supreme Personality of Godhead; uvaca--said; vettha--just know from Me; idam--this; drona-putrasya--of the son of Drona; brahmam astram--hymns of the brahma (nuclear) weapon; pradarsitam--exhibited; na--not; eva--even; asau--he; veda--know it; samharam--retraction; prana-badhe--extinction of life; upasthite--being imminent.

                                   TRANSLATION

   The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Know from Me that this is the act of the son of Drona. He has thrown the hymns of nuclear energy [brahmastra], and he does not know how to retract the glare. He has helplessly done this, being afraid of imminent death.

                PURPORT

The brahmastra is similar to the modern nuclear weapon manipulated by atomic energy. The atomic energy works wholly on total combustibility, and so the brahmastra also acts. It creates an intolerable heat similar to atomic radiation, but the difference is that the atomic bomb is a gross type of nuclear weapon, whereas the brahmastra is a subtle type of weapon produced by chanting hymns. It is a different science, and in the days gone by such science was cultivated in the land of Bharata-varsa. The subtle science of chanting hymns is also material, but it has yet to be known by the modern material scientists. Subtle material science is not spiritual, but it has a direct relationship with the spiritual method, which is still subtler. A chanter of hymns knew how to apply the weapon as well as how to retract it. That was perfect knowledge. But the son of Dronacarya, who made use of this subtle science, did not know how to retract. He applied it, being afraid of his imminent death, and thus the practice was not only improper but also irreligious. As the son of a brahmana, he should not have made so many mistakes, and for such gross negligence of duty he was to be punished by the Lord Himself.

if Arjuna abandoned the battle, he would be committing an infamous act; therefore Krsna said that such an attitude in Arjuna did not fit his personality.

   klaibyam--impotence; ma--do not; sma--take it; gamah--go in; partha--O son of Prtha; na--never; etat--like this; tvayi--unto you; upadyate--is befitting; ksudram--very little; hrdaya--heart; daurbalyam--weakness; tyaktva--giving up; uttistha--get up; param-tapa--O chastiser of the enemies.

                                   TRANSLATION

  O son of Prtha, do not yield to this degrading impotence. It does not become you. Give up such petty weakness of heart and arise, O chastiser of the enemy.

                                        PURPORT

   Arjuna was addressed as "the son of Prtha," who happened to be the sister of Krsna's father Vasudeva. Therefore Arjuna had a blood relationship with Krsna. If the son of a ksatriya declines to fight, he is a ksatriya in name only, and if the son of a brahmana acts impiously, he is a brahmana in name only. Such ksatriyas and brahmanas are unworthy sons of their fathers; therefore, Krsna did not want Arjuna to become an unworthy son of a ksatriya. Arjuna was the most intimate friend of Krsna, and Krsna was directly guiding him on the chariot; but in spite of all these credits, if Arjuna abandoned the battle, he would be committing an infamous act; therefore Krsna said that such an attitude in Arjuna did not fit his personality. Arjuna might argue that he would give up the battle on the grounds of his magnanimous attitude for the most respectable Bhisma and his relatives, but Krsna considered that sort of magnanimity not approved by authority. Therefore, such magnanimity or so-called nonviolence should be given up by persons like Arjuna under the direct guidance of Krsna.

Cattle are to be culled on a third Surrey farm over fears of a fresh outbreak of foot and mouth disease.

It comes as some restrictions were eased on the movement of animals imposed in the wake of the scare.

Transporting live animals to slaughterhouses and collecting dead animals from farms will both be allowed from midnight.

But officials stress these will only be permitted outside the protection zone in Surrey.

The Welsh and Scottish governments have also announced similar moves.

The latest farm to come under the spotlight is adjacent to the second farm where the disease was discovered.

Meanwhile, experts are checking whether the foot and mouth outbreak was caused by sabotage linked to a nearby laboratory site.

A Health and Safety Executive preliminary report said there were various potential routes for "accidental or deliberate transfer of material from the site".

It said: "Release by human movement must also be considered a real possibility. Further investigation of the above issues is required and is being urgently pursued."

Merial Animal Health, which is based at the lab, said it does not believe the disease was spread by people from its centre.

It said: "To date, we have not been able to establish any evidence that the virus may have been transported out of our centre by humans."

Environment Secretary Hilary Benn admitted the Government has to look at the possibility the outbreak in Surrey was the result of deliberate human contamination.

Speaking after the publication of the report, he said: "The truth is, we don't know. We're all very, very anxious."

Mr Benn has agreed to a recommendation by the Chief Veterinary Officer Debby Reynolds that footpaths in a protection zone, which covers the two infected farms, be closed with immediate effect.

Defra has confirmed that an allotment, which is understood to be near the first site of the outbreak, is being looked at as part of the ongoing "epidemiology investigation".

Culling at the two farms which had outbreaks of foot and mouth is complete, it said.

A spokesman for Defra said: "A total of 214 animals have been culled with none awaiting culling.

"All the culling took place inside the protection zone."

The safety executive's preliminary findings said there was a "strong possibility" that the Pirbright laboratory facility was the source of the foot and mouth outbreak.

It did not specify whether Merial Animal Health or the Institute of Animal Health (IAH), both on the site, was responsible.

Chances that the infections had been caused by flooding or aerial transmission were "negligible", it added.

The report confirmed the strain found at the first farm was being worked on at both IAH and Merial between July 14 and 25.

There was large scale production at the Merial site (10,000 litres) and a series of small scale experiments (fewer than 10 millilitres in each case) at the IAH site.

Flashback: Foot and Mouth Virus Released From Government Lab

A scientist called in to investigate whether the foot and mouth virus had escaped from an animal health research plant has said sabotage was becoming the only explanation.

Andrew King, who was brought in by the Institute of Animal Health (IAH), in Pirbright, Surrey, said the police should now be asked to investigate.

Dr King, a former head of molecular biology at the IAH, told The Times that biosecurity was so tight that he felt the outbreak must have been caused deliberately.

  He said: “As far as I am concerned the authorities have failed to find any chink in the armoury of the establishment's bio-security. What you are left with is human movement, which is not a matter for the institute, it's a police matter. It's very, very unlikely that it could be spread by accident. People do not spread the disease easily.”

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) staff concluded in their preliminary report that deliberate or accidental human movements were the most likely means by which the FMD virus escaped from the labs.

The IAH and Merial, the American company that shares the same site at Pirbright, were named as the two most probable sources of the outbreak, but investigators have so far been unable to find any evidence that the biosecurity measures or equipment were faulty.

Dr King described a range of biosecurity procedures to protect against leaks. He said staff that came into contact with viruses had to shower and change all their clothes.

“None of these single measures is absolute but together it makes it impossible for the virus to get out and it never has got out in the modern era,” he said.

“It has to be regarded as a bit fishy.”

Dr King said the longest period after which the virus had ever been recovered from the human body after heavy exposure was 48 hours, and that involved a full body search.

In the original outbreaks the infected cattle had been grazing at two sites in the village of Normandy, near Guildford, which is close to a research facility in Pirbright.

The whole idea is to preach the cult of Lord Caitanya who desired to bestow upon every living being the highest benefit by transcendental love of Godhead which alone can bring in peace in the world.

They are now very busy to bring in peace in the world and are continuously holding expensive conferences, meetings, summit talks etc. to make an effective peace movement but because such attempts are being made without any relation of God, they are all manifold creations of the External Potency of the Absolute Truth.

As an experienced philosopher this fact is not hidden before you. According to Lord Caitanya every Indian is competent to do good to the rest of the world provided such Indian has fulfilled the mission of life which is to revive the dormant divine consciousness in every living being.

The process recommended by the Lord is very simple and plain. It is just to create a favorable condition for hearing only the message of Krishna (Bhagavad-gita) or the messages about Krishna (The spiritual Bhagavatam) or both combined in the message of Sri Caitanya Caritamrta.

The hearing tendency is made easy and still more favorable by songs and music of spiritual value to be equally shared by all classes of men namely the highest educated and the lowest illiterate,. The movement is sublime and easy at the some time.

The League of Devotees is registered to make this movement in an organized way and I wish to enquire if any co-operation and help can be expected from your honour.

Today morning the sky is scattered with cloud. The ship is going toward western side. The ship is running against wind current. The sea is little rougher. At 10/30 we saw the south coast of Ceylon with a white light house. Two ships passed from the opposite side. Some daring fishermen were fishing in small boats. From distance they appeared to be almost drowned in the water but next moment they appear to be safely working. There is sunshine but the sky is not clear.

The captain informed me that by next six hours we shall reach Colombo port. The hilly southernmost Ceylon coast is said to be 4 to 5 miles away from our ship. This means the fishermen were fishing in small boats 5 to 10 miles away from their native coast. Certainly very daring job. At about 2 p.m. we have now turned towards northern front. The sky is cloudy but we are forwarding steadily. Today I was better than other three days. At 3 p.m. the Colombo city became faintly visible from the ship. The colour of water in the India ocean is different from that of Bay of Bengal

The ship reached exactly at 4/30 in the port but the management of Colombo port could not receive the ship for want of berth and then it is anchored on the shore waiting to enter the port. At about 9 p.m. the ship was escorted by the Pilot and we entered the dockyard very old pattern but there were many ships from various countries including passenger and cargo ships. At night the dockyard ships assumed a brilliant (sic:) espectacle on account profuse light. We rested the whole night the ship being anchored. Next morning barges loaded with goods arrived near the ship.

So now you have got the right spiritual master, the process I've given you, so now it is up to you.

Please accept my blessings. I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated August 10, 1972, and I am very much pleased to hear that you are making spiritual progress and you are more serious to attend to the real matter of your life.

Go on in this way, reading, chanting, worshiping the deity, and offering the fruits of your labor to Krishna, and attend Mangala Arati at the temple and classes as much as possible, and very soon you will feel yourself becoming perfectly happy. This spot life is meant for becoming God conscious and there is no other purpose or meaning to life outside of this.

So now you have got the right spiritual master, the process I've given you, so now it is up to you. If you really want to achieve the goal of your life, then become very serious to always pursue it at every moment and not be distracted by anything false.

Sukadeva is the president now in Seattle temple, so if you can assist him in his management and other programs, kindly give him your help.
